Description:
We are looking for a Participation Producer to oversee and deliver our exciting new intergenerational living history project “We Need New Stories” in partnership with Nottingham Libraries. “We Need New Stories” will work with first-generation Zimbabwean migrants in the Nottingham area: facilitating a series of conversations where they are either interviewed by their younger relatives, or local young people from the African diaspora. The interviews will then be dramatised, in a co-creation process where a professional playwright works collaboratively with each interviewee, to create dramatic monologues that tell their stories. The result will be an exciting pop-up digital installation, where the monologues are made available for anyone to listen to for free. The installation will launch initially at five Nottingham Libraries for the whole month of March 2023, and subsequently tour nationally with Fifth Word’s new production of ‘We Need New Names’ (an adaptation by Mufaro Makubika of the Booker-shortlised novel by NoViolet Bulawayo) over Spring-Summer 2023, to at least 5 theatre venues around the country.
About the Role:
We are looking for a Freelance Participation producer to lead on participant and volunteer recruitment, scheduling and arranging the young people’s training programme and oral history interviews, and to be the producer for the dramatisation and recording of the monologues.

Contract: Freelance
Timescale: From August 2022– June 2023
Fee: £9,500
The Participation Producer’s time can be distributed as they see fit, within the needs of the project; it is expected that the larger part of the total days will be spent over Sept 2022-Feb 2023 which will be the busiest period of project delivery for this role.
The fee breaks down as an expected total of 38 full days over an 11-month period (August 2022-June 2023).
