Step Up was a film and drama project created with and for young people at the Polygon and Ironville youth centres, Derbyshire. The groups worked alongside film and drama artists to produce three short films and a live theatrical performance for their local community.

The making of ‘Ella’ at Polygon Youth Centre

A group of young people from the Polygon Youth Centre in Alfreton created a modern version of the traditional pantomime tale Cinderella. The group performed their piece in front of a large live audience. They also screened this documentary about the behind the scenes making of the production.

The young people were responsible for all areas of the project including the technical, creative and project management aspects. Skills transferred included: scriptwriting; acting; camera/sound operation; editing; marketing; budgeting and exhibiting.
